Narrative

Death of H. Bascom Hunter, 1930 - Louisa Co. VA

Central Virginian, Oct. 23, 1930, p. 1:

"Death of H. Bascom Hunter
H. Bascom Hunter, one of our prominent businessmen of Louisa, died
last Saturday night, October 18, at Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond.
Mr. Hunter had been in failing health for the past year and went to the
hospital some three weeks ago where an operation was performed but failed
to save his life. Mr. Hunter had been very active in the Town of Louisa in
entering all things for its betterment. He was one of the originators of
our splendid fire department and was its first and only secretary and was
beloved by every member of that organization. It will be hard to fill his
place. Mr. Hunter was a great sportsman, no man loved to fish and hunt more
than he.
His remains were brought to Louisa last Monday, taken in charge by the
Fire Company and laid to rest in Oakdale Cemetery.
Mr. Hunter was born in Louisa 62 years ago. His father was George
David Morris Hunter and his mother was Miss Virginia Marion Thomson. He
left the following children, brothers, and sisters: daughter, Mrs. J. B.
Guthrie, sons E.S., E.T., and F.G., sisters Mrs. V. I. Francisco, Mrs.
L. G. Butler, Mrs. Rosabell Flaherty, brothers Morris S., V.T., and E.Q.
Hunter.
