Thomas was born in 1839 in Saint Martin.  Thomas' father was Johannes Willem Van Romondt and his mother was Judith Rink Tielenius (Kruythoff). He had five brothers and five sisters, named Willem, John, Philogene, Everhardus, Vincent, Sarah, Anna, Susan, Judith and Juliette Isabel.  He was the sixth oldest of the eleven children.  He died at the age of 83 in 1922 in Saint Martin.
