William John Spinney

William was born on April 13th, 1894. William's father was Sylvester Vess Spinney and his mother was Lucinda Evaline Woodside. His paternal grandparents were Asa D. Spinney and Isabel. He had a brother and three sisters, named Cleveland, Lillie, Margaret and Mary. He was the youngest of the five children. He died at the age of 64 on November 4th, 1958.

General Notes
- William and Margaret were married on March 15, 1920. He was a Sgt. in Company M, 319 Infantry in WWI. He was a coal miner most of his life. He was an accomplished musician, and had sung with an Army quartet in WWI, although he had no formal musical training. He also played a number of musical instruments including the fiddle, piano, guitar, and mandolin. With his brother, Grover Cleveland Spinney, his son, William Douglas, and some friends, he played old-time music for dances during the depression in the Randolph County, Illinois area.
