Foreman Spinney

Foreman was born on September 27th, 1879 in Argyle, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia. Foreman's father was Caleb Spinney and his mother was Hannah Smith. His paternal grandfather was James Spinney and his paternal grandmother is <Unknown>. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Lemuel, Wilson, Ella, Jeanette and Dora. He was the fifth oldest of the six children. He died at the age of 59 on October 6th, 1938 in At sea. He was buried in Fisherman's Rest, Beechbrook Cemetery, Gloucester, Massachusetts.

  Captain Forman Spinney, 59 years, passed away suddenly last Friday aboard the local dory trawler Edith C. Rose, Captain Albert Hines, at sea. His remains were landed at Shelburne, Nova Scotia, shipped to his home in Malden, from where the funeral is to be held this afternoon, with burial at Fisherman's Rest, Beechbrook Cemetery, West Gloucester. He leaves a widow and eight children.
  The late Captain Spinney was born in Argyle, Yarmouth County, Nova Scotia, September 15, 1879, but came to this city in his early youth and followed the fisheries, along with his older brother, Captain Lemuel R. Spinney, noted halibuting skipper. In more recent years he moved with his family to Malden. He was engineer aboard the Edith C. Rose, but among his former commands were such well known vessals as the schooner Senator, and the Oretha F. Spinney. He was considered an able ship-mate and highly esteemed as a mariner.
  He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nellie (Ellis) Spinney, six daughters, Marion, wife of Frank Spinney; Dorothy, wife of Steven Dodge; Laura Spinney; Ella, wife of Phillips Powell, and Misses Bertha and Alice Spinney; two sons, Carl and Wilson Spinney; and a brother, Captain Lemuel R. Spinney, this city.
