    Manchester - Arnold C. Spinney, 99, of 465 Medford St., formerly of Eliot, widower of Mildred L. (Moulton) Spinney, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, at his grandsons residence in Manchester.
    Born Feb. 22, 1900, in Eliot, he was the son of Albert L. and Sadie (Staples) Spinney and attended local schools.
    He worked for 25 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, retiring in 1949. He then worked locally as a painter for many years.
    He was a member of the Eliot Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, playing cards, watching boxing on television as well as the Red Sox.
    He is survived by seven grandchildren, Arnold R. Dow of Raymond, Janice (Dow) Brown of Amesbury, Mass., Andrea (Dow) Rogers of Seabrook, Douglass Dow of Epping, Dennis Dow of Manchester, Denise (Dow) Spaulding of Byfield, Mass., William R. Dow Jr. of Byfield, Mass; 19 great grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; a nephew, Frederick Shapleigh Jr. of Eliot; a niece, Julia Spinney Dufore of Kittery; and his son-in-law, William Dow Sr. of Epping.
    Besides his wife, who died in 1993, he was predeceased by two daughters, Margaret Spinney, who died in 1924, and Marion L. Spinney Dow, who died in 1981. He was also predeceased by a grandson, Kenneth Dow in 1997.
