    Spinney, Ethel Mary - 89, Coldbrook, Kings County, formerly of Canning, Kings County, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2003 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Birmingham, England she was a daughter of the late Harry and Minnie (Inchley) Hales. She spent her early childhood in Birmingham, England and was honoured by the Birmingham and surrounding schools by being named the "May Queen". She immigrated to Canada in 1926 and settled in Canning, where she met Gilbert Spinney, they were married for 60 years at the time of his passing. She was a long-time member of the Canning Baptist Church, where she was active in the music program. Together with her husband, they owned and operated Spinney's Canteen, playing, singing and teaching. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great great-grandmother and friend. She is survived by daughters, Joyce, (Kenneth), Carey, Hamilton, Ontario; Reverend Ardythe Ashe, Black Point, Halifax County; Marguerite (Keith) Rogers, Bridgewater, Lunenburg County; Rita (Kenneth) Jess and Joanne (Michael) Johnston, both of Coldbrook, Kings County; sons, Donald, North Alton, Kings County; Eugene (Sheila), Coldbrook; Frank (Donna), Aylesford, Kings County; Greg (Dorothy), Coldbrook, Kings County; sister Minnie Lynk, Kentville. 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins throughout Canada, England and Australia. She was predeceased by her husband, Gilber Leander Spinny; son James Gilber Spinney; sister Elsie; brothers, Harry, Stanley, Frederick, and Joseph; daughter-in-law, Sheila (Rogers) Spinney; son-in-law, James Ashe. Visitation will be held from 2-4, 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, in W.C. Hiltz/White Family Funeral Home, Kentville. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 4, in Canning Baptist Church, Canning, Rev. Philip Locke, Rev Ardythe Ashe and Rev. Dr. Mark Parent officiating. Burial will take place in the Hillaton Cemetery, Hillaton. Family flowers only by request. Donations in memory may be made to the Canadia Diabetes Association or Canning Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the W.C. Hiltz/White Family Funeral Home, Kentville.
