John was born on December 22nd, 1665.  John's father was Joseph Dow and his mother was Mary Sanborn.  His paternal grandparents were Henry Dow and Joan; his maternal grandparents are William Sanborn and Mary Moulton. He had eight brothers and three sisters, named Joseph, James, Henry, Jeremiah, Josiah, Thomas, Samuel, Aaron, Mary, Hannah and Charitye.  He was the second oldest of the twelve children.
