Henry's father was David Dow and his mother was Sophia Pickering.  His paternal grandfather was Nathan Dow and his paternal grandmother is Mary Weed; his maternal grandparents are Thomas S. Pickering and Lucy Bray. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named David, Crockett, Augustus, Willie, William, Benjamin, John, Lucy, Eliza and Mary.  He died on January 25th, 1876.
