Adam was born on April 23rd, 1818 in Pennsylvania.  Adam's father was Abraham Fifer and his mother was Lydia Fry.  His paternal grandmother is <Unknown>. He had seven brothers and three sisters, named Jacob, John, Isaac, Abraham, George, Peter, William M., Mary Polly, Elizabeth and Lydia.  He is the third oldest of the eleven children.
