Zulay's father was Carlos José “Carlucho” Russián Requena and her mother is Andrea “La Muñeca” Mercado Ramos.  Her paternal grandparents were Carlos Russián Wietzstruck and Graciela  Requena. She has two brothers and three sisters, named Carlos, Lorenzo, María, Marisela and Raquel.
