John was born in November 1681 in St Mewen, Cornwall and his baptism took place there on November 23rd, 1681.  John's father was William Vivian and his mother was <Unknown>. He had three brothers and a sister, named William, Ralph, Phillip and Mary.  He was the oldest of the five children.
