Ado August was born in 1893.  Ado August's father was Jaak Piir and his mother was Miina Piir (Tamm).  His paternal grandparents were Peeter Piir and Mari Piir (Tõnson). He had a brother and two sisters, named Jaan, Anna and Elisabeth.  He was the second oldest of the four children. He had two half-sisters named Roosi Marie and Leena.
