August was born in 1884.  August's father was Jaan Brikker and his mother was Mai Brikker (Kirsipuu).  His paternal grandparents were Peeter Brikker and Epp Brikker. He had three brothers and a sister, named Hugo, Ferdinand, Arnold and Emilie.  He was the second oldest of the five children. He had two half-brothers and five half-sisters, named Juhan, Hindrik, Liis, Ann, Leena, Juuli and Ann.
