Peeter was born in 1867.  Peeter's father was Jaak Barkala and his mother was Liis Barkala (Volmer).  His maternal grandparents were Märt Meema=Volmer and Margareet Volmer. He had a brother and a sister, named Jaan and Mari.  He was the youngest of the three children. He had two half-brothers named Jüri and Juhan.  He died at the age of 23 in 1890.
