Edward was born on July 7th, 1877 in Scott, Iowa, US.1  Edward's father was Carl William Thiering and his mother was Magretha Graves.  His paternal grandparents were Hans Thiering and Catherina Horn. He had three brothers and a sister, named William, Emil, Albert and Dora.  He was the oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 56 on March 28th, 1934 in Scott, Iowa, US.1
