József's father was György Asbóth and his mother was Anna Milos.  His paternal grandparents were János Asbóth and Anna Morvai. He had three brothers and three sisters, named János, György, József, Rozália, Katalin and Agáta.  He was the second oldest of the seven children. He had two half-sisters named Klára and Anna.
