Mária's father was Pál Nagy and her mother was Judit Kecskés.  Her paternal grandparents were Pál Nagy and Margit Landor. She had eight brothers and three sisters, named István, Pál, Dániel, Sándor, Boldizsár, Antal, József, Imre, Mária, Mária and Mária.  She was the fifth oldest of the twelve children.
