Wilhelm TIEFENBACH

Wilhelm was born on February 28th, 1894 in Zadowa, Bukovina. Wilhelm's father was Johann TIEFENBACH and his mother was Marinana STETNER. His paternal grandparents were Phillip TIEFENBACH and Margaretha BERG; his maternal grandparents were George STETNER and Elizabeth KOPP. He had six brothers and five sisters, named Nikolaus, George, Filip, Simon, Frank, Paul, Anna, Julia, Karolina, Theresa and Maria. He had a half-sister named Margareth. He died at the age of 91 on July 3rd, 1985 in Regina, SK, Canada. His burial was on July 5th, 1985 in Regina Memorial Gardens, Regina, SK, Canada.

- BIOGRAPHY: Wihelm was the tenth child of 12 born to Johann and Marianne Tiefenbach (nee Stetner). He was baptised in the Luthern faith and confirmed in that faith as a young man. In early October 1911 Wilhelm (17 years old) immigrated to Regina, arriving on November 2, 1911. With him he brought his nephew, George who was only 12 years old, they were greeted by George's grandparents. He worked for Frank Janotta for a year and then for Chris Wagner for four years. In 1916 he farmed north of Southey Saskatchewan, purchasing one quarter section and rented other land. It was in the Serath area that he met Wilhelmina Hehn, and they were married in the Lutheran Church in Southey on September 11, 1917. In 1921 they moved to McLean, he farmed for a while but his real interest was blacksmithing, which he apprenticed in Galicia. His first blacksmith shop was in Balgonie, but he bought the blacksmith shop in McLean from Bill Carson. He operated the blacksmith shop until his retirement, 72 years old, in 1966.

  3Obituary. "TIEFENBACH - Wednesday, July 3, 1985, Mr. Wilhelm (Bill) Tiefenbach of Regina Lutheran Home, and formerly of McLean, passed away in his 91st year. Predeceased by his wife, Wilhelmina, in 1977; a daughter, Alma Rumpel (Reuben), in 1973; Mr. Tiefenbach is survived by eight children: Eva (Bill) Burke, of Saskatoon, Adella Crowe (Lloyd), of Moose Jaw, Sieg (Phyllis) Tiefenbach, of Hamilton, Ontario, Adeline (Elmer) Flaman, of Regina, Rudy (Eileen) Tiefenbach, of Regina Elenore (Harry) Theissen, of Sardis, B.C., Joe (Peggy) Tiefenbach, of Tisdale, Ernie (Lenna) Tiefenbach, of Buena Vista Beach, 26 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren. Mr. Tiefenbach arrived from Zadawa Bukowina, Austria, in 1911. In 1917 Mr. Tiefenbach married Wilhelmina Hehn and they homesteaded north of Southey. In 1921 they moved to a farm at McLean, and in 1923 set up a blacksmith shop in Balgonie. In 1925 they moved their business to McLean, where Mr. Tiefenbach lived, until moving into the Regina Lutheran Home, 5th. Ave. North, in 1980. Mr. Tiefenbach will be remembered for his community spirit and involvement. He was well known to a very large area for his skills in blacksmithing and welding. His love of gardening, travelling, and visiting his family, took up most of his time after his retirement in 1966. Funeral service will be held Friday, July 5, 1985, in Christ Lutheran Church, 4825 Dewdney Avenue, at 3:00 p.m., with The Rev. W. Kurtz officiating. Interment in Regina Memorial Gardens.   TIEFENBACH - With sympathy to all his family, we report the passing of an old time resident of McLean, Mr. William Tiefenbach, who passed away in the Regina Lutheran Home on July 3rd, 1985, in his 91st year. Funeral service was held in Christ Lutheran Church, Regina, on July 5th, 1985, with Rev. W. Kurtz officiating. Interment was in Regina Memorial Gardens. Cates' family. Mr. Tiefenbach had a thriving blacksmith business in McLean for many, many years. They built a new home in McLean, now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Herman Gillert. Both of them excelled in their beautiful flower and vegetable garden. In 1980 Mr. Tiefenbach took up residence in the Regina Lutheran Home, where he peacefully passed away." "It's not very often that a young pastor with wife and six children can come to a small congregation and be welcomed and loved beyond imagination. That's what my memories are all about today as I share with you in this service of thanks and praise to God for a man we've all com to love and respect. Mr. Wilhelm Tiefenbach. His life has been full and overflowing. In the years of his young manhood and later life, he always had a good story to tell. And how he loved his family and church. Today we say 'farewell' until we meet at Jesus' feet. For Mr. Tiefenbach, Christian faith was a reality - he loved his Lord - and it showed in all he did. He entered this world on February 28, 1894 in Bukovina Austria, the 10th child of 12 born to Mr. & Mrs. Johann Tiefenbach. He was baptised within the Lutheran family of believers in Zadawa, and confirmed in that faith as a young man. When he was 17 years old, he brought with him a nephew, George who was only 12, and leaving early October 1911, arriving in Regina on November 2, 1911 - welcomed by George's grandparents. He worked for Frank Janotta for a year, and then for Chris Wagner for 4 years. In 1916 he farmed north of Southey, purchasing on quarter section and renting other land. It was in the Serath area that he met Wilhelmina (Mina) Hehn, and they were married in the Lutheran Church in Southey on September 11, 1917. There were times tht the crops were poor and other times crops were better, but the best crop of all was the ten children born to them: George, Eva, Adela, Siegfried, Adeline, Rudy, Alma, Elenor, Joseph and Ernie. In 1921, they moved to McLean, and farmed for a while, but his real interest seemed to be in blacksmithing which he apprenticed in Poland. His first blacksmith shop was in Balgonie, but he moved to McLean buying the shop form Bill Carson and worked at that until his retirement at age 72 in 1966. All of you can add so much more to this obituary, since you knew and loved him in so many different circumstances. You will know of his patient nature, his quiet, unassuming manner, his politness, and his satisfaction with whatever the Lord gave him. he and 'Mother' Tiefenbach, who we laid to rest some eight years ago, were always at worship, cared for the communion vessels, brought folwer for the altar and were faithful right unto their deaths. We know that Mr. Tiefenbach began to fail in health in the past years, but he always greeted me with a smile, as he did for all of you. He entered the Lutheran Home in 1980, and passed away quietly on Wednesday, July 3rd, at the age of 91 years. I am so pleased to be here with the family today. Aggie and I are retiring and will be leaving Regina for Kelowna in 25 days. I have truly loved your dad and grandpa and great grandpa, and I know you will always have great memories of him. He was predeaced by his parents, his dear wife Wilhelmina, two children, George in infancy and Alma in 1973, and is survived by: Eva & Bill Burke of Saskatoon, Adela & Lloyd Crowe of Moose Jaw, Sieg & Phyllis of Hamilton, Ontario, Adeline & Elmer Flaman of Regina, Rudy & Eileen of Regina, Elenore & Harry Thiessen of Sardis, B.C., Joe & Peggy of Tisdale, Sask., Ernie & Lenna of Buena Vista Beach, 26 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren, plus many friends and relatives.
