    John Skidmore, a son of Thomas and Ellen Skidmore, was born April 11, 1643 at Cambridge, Mass achussets.  He married Susanna Davis, a daughter of Fulk Davis, at Jamaica, L.I., New York i n 1662/1663.  John died at Jamaica July 9, 1680.
    
    John was born in Boston, Mass, on 11 April 1643, and died at Jamaica, Long Island, before Jul y 1680. He married Susanna, a daughter of Fulk Davis of Jamaica, about 1662, He was the black smith of this town also grew tobaccoand dried and cured it.  Jamacia's was Presbyterian in do ctrine. John Skidmore was clerk of it also because all the business of Church was transacte d at the town meetings. He was elected to that office 4 April 1670 although his name appeare d in
    town records before that date. More about John Skidmore,s life is on pages 15, 16 17 in Warre n Skidmore's book "Thomas Skidmore (Scudamore), 1605-1684, of Westerleigh, Gloucestershire,an d Fairfield, Connecticut; His ancestors and his descendents to the ninth generations.   Mos t of the posterity of Joseph Skidmore went by way of Maryland about
    the year l749 to what became Pendleton County, West Virginia. John was sealed to Susanna on 1 2 Feb 1942 LG[2768765.ged]
    
    Will dated 15 February 1678/9, proved 9 July 1680; children John, Samuel,
    Tho mas, Joseph, Abigail.  He m. Susanna_________, who died before him.

    "In 16 52 the Puritan Colony which had been established at Sandwich,
    Mass., detached eleven families from their number and dispached them
    through the Connecticut Valley to Huntington, Long Island, under the
    leadership ofthe pastor, Rev. W illiam Liverich.   Among these colonists
    were JohnSkidmore and Daniel Whitehe ad who were grantees and
    proprietorsof thetown of Huntington, Long Island, de stined to be and
    afterwards includedin the state of Connecticut."

    Skidmore, who through God's mercy having my sences perfectly about me,
    yet not knowing how it may please God to deal with me, I commit my soul
    to God, and for prev enting of future danger do dispose of my estate as
    followeth." Leaves to his 5 children all his estate both in the town of
    Jamaica, and €50 given by my fa ther Thomas Skidmore of Fairfield in New
    England, and gives his eldest son Jo hn full power to recover the same.
    Mentions "my two youngest children Joseph and Abigail." "The black horse
    given by my wife to the 4 boys, to be equally divided between them" (wife
    deceased, name not given). Makes Joseph Smith, Sr ., and Daniel Whitehead,
    overseers.
    Witnesses, Samuel Ruscoe, Edward Borro ws. Proved at Court of Sessions,
    held in Jamaica, July 9, and confirmed Decem ber 30, 1680.

    Inventory taken by Robert Ashman and Thomas Oak ley, July 7, 1680. The
    Housing and land at home €60, the land and meadow at H ayters, €20. The 10
    acre lot and other land €20. Joseph Smith, Daniel Whitehe ad, John Hinds.

    April 1643 a nd died at Jamaica, Queens County, Long Island, before 7 July
    1680...married Susanna, a daughter of Fulk Davis of Jamaica, about 1662."
    This statement see ms to be in question.  Some sources list her as the
    daughter of William Smith while others the daughter of Fulk Davis.  If
    anyone has seen evidence of def initive proof please let me know so I can
