    BIO:Lawrence Litchfield came to the colonies before 1639 and possibly
    as early as 1634, probably from Kent, England. (He was closely
    associated with the "Kentish men" who accompanied Rev. John Lothrop).

    From 'Historic Homes and Institutions and Genealogical and Family History of New York:'
    Lawrence Litchfield, the common ancestor of all of the name who claim a New England origin, w as very clearly in America, but dates cannot be given. The Rev. John Lathrop, in 1634, arrive d in the ship "Griffin", with a church and colony of "Kentish men", from Egerton, in Kent, En gland, and settled with them in Scituate, Massachusetts. With this company Lawrence Litchfiel d had numerous connections which he never forsook and who never forsook him. He must have bee n, at their arrival, a young man and unmarried. Here, he is presumed to have remained until 1 640.  The first mention of his name on any records is in 1640 when he was received a member o f the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Boston. In 1643 his name appears in Barnstab le on a list of those able to bear arms. About 1645 he returned to Scituate, having a wife an d two children.  In 1648 his name occurs in the will of Thomas Dennis, of Scituate, and ther e are references to him in the Scituate records to show he lived there until his death in 165 7. Children: Experience (a son), Rememberance, Dependence, and Josiah.
    
    From "New England Families Genealogical and Memorial, Vol. 2:'
    Lawrence Litchfield, the immigrant ancestor, was born in England, and is the progenitor of al l the old families of this name in America. He was a member of the Boston Artillery Company a s early as 1640, but soon afterward made his home in Scituate, Massachusetts. He was on a lis t of men able to bear arms in Barnstable in 1643.  In 1645 he returned to Scituate.  His wido w testified March 20, 1657-58, that her husband on his deathbed consented that John Allen, o f Scituate, might adopt his son, Josias Litchfield. Children: Lawrence, resided at Barnstabl e and Scituate; Rememberance, married ____Lewis; Dependence, born February 15, 1646 at Scitua te, Josiah or Josias, mentioned below.
