James Hamilton

James was born on October 7th, 1786 in Petersham Lodge.¹ James' father was John James Hamilton and his mother was Catherine Copley. His maternal grandparents were Joseph Copley and Mary Buller. He had three sisters named Harriet Margaret, Maria and Catherine Elizabeth. He was the youngest of the four children. He died at the age of 27 on May 27th, 1814 in London, Middlesex, England.¹

  James Hamilton, Viscount Hamilton (Petersham Lodge, Surrey, 7 October 17 86 – 27 May 1814, Mayfair) was a British nobleman and politician, the elde st son of John Hamilton, 1st Marquess of Abercorn.
  
  He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford and matriculated on 24 October 18 05.
  
  On November 25, 1809, he married Harriet Douglas, granddaughter of James D ouglas, 14th Earl of Morton, by whom he had three children:
  
  Harriet Hamilton (c. 1812 – March 19, 1884), married Admiral William Alexa nder Baillie-Hamilton and had issue
  James Hamilton, 1st Duke of Abercorn (1811–1885)
  Lord Claud Hamilton (1813–1884)
  He died in his house in London at the age of 27, leaving three young child ren; James, the eldest son, would succeed his grandfather as Marquess of A bercorn four years later.
