    Daniel Whitehead of Huntington or Newtown, Long Island in 1650, was one
    of th e patentees in the grant of Governor Nichols, 1666. He left sons
    Daniel, Jona than, David and Adam. (Dictionary of the First Settlers of
    New England) Danie l Whitehead (Sr.), of Maspeth Kills, in Newtowne, left
    a will, and made his w ife (not named) executrix. She renounced the right,
    and Letters of Administra tion were granted to Stephanus Van Cortlandt,

    Daniel W hitehead, 1603-1668, the grandfather of Mercy Whitehead, the
    third wife of Ca pt.
    Joseph Sackett, was the founder of the Long Island branch of the
    Whiteh ead family. He came to New England with the early colonists and
    migrated to L ong Island, N. Y., during, or previous to the year 1647,
    under which date his name appears amount the proprietors of Hempstead. In
    1650 he purchased land in Smithtown, and later, in Oyster Bay, in
    Huntington, and on Lloyds Neck,. R iker says that "he located at Mespot
    Kills, was a reputable citizen and one o f the seven persons to whom the
    first Newtown Patent was granted." He was cho sen a town surveyor in 1668
    and died on his farm at Mespot Kills in November of that year. He was at
    the time of his death one of the two Overseers, or Ch ief Magistrates of
    the town.

    "In 1652 the Puritan Colony which had been established at Sandwich,
    Mass., detached eleven families from their number and dispached them
    through the Connecticut Valley to Huntington, Long Island, under the
    leadership ofthe pastor, Rev. William Liverich.   Among these colonists
    were JohnSkidmore and Daniel Whitehead who were grantees and
    proprietorsof thetown of Huntington, Long Island, destined to be and
    afterwards includedin the sta te of Connecticut."

    LLOYD HARBOR
    T he neck of land called Caumsett (meaning “place by sharp rock”) by the
    Matine cock Indians was sold by them in 1654 to three Englishmen (Samuel
    Mayo, Danie l Whitehead, and Peter Wright) for a variety of items,
    including three coats, three shirts, wampum, six knives, and two pairs of
    shoes.  The property chan ged hands several times during the next two
    decades, acquiring the name Horse Neck because Huntington farmers grazed
    horses there.  In 1684, James Lloyd, a Boston merchant became the sole
    owner of Horse Neck.  On March 8, 1685, the Lieutenant Governor granted
    James Lloyd the royal patent for Horse Neck and formally renamed it the
    “Manor of Queen’s Village.”  Thus, James Lloyd became Lord of the Manor,
    and Lloyd Neck was annexed to the Town of Oyster Bay, Que ens County.
