Hong's father is Hung Foo Chan and his mother is Kwei Fun (Biu Goo Ma) Lau (Chan).  Muy Hing Lau and Gwok Wah Cheuk (Lau) is his grandfatherwas his grandmother through his mother's adoption. He had a brother and four sisters, named Ken, Yun Yee, "May" Yee, Yin Yee and "Rose" Sil Yee.
