Marcelo's father was Francisco Parungao and his mother is Catalina (Lina) Maniaul Vinuya.  His maternal grandparents were Florentino (Tinoy) Sangalang Vinuya and Auria (Auring) Maniaul. He has two brothers and two sisters, named Joe, Jeffrey, Jocelyn and Jelyn.  He is the third oldest of the five children.
