Benjamin was born in 1842 in Bolton, Lancashire.1   Benjamin's father was Thomas Flitcroft and his mother was Mary Ann Perrin. He had a brother and two sisters, named Thomas, Phoebe and Susannah.  He was the oldest of the four known children.  He died at the age of 56 in 1898 in Bolton.
