András was born on January 22nd, 1863 in Aranyos and his christening took place there on January 24th, 1863 conducted by minister Sólyom János.1   His godfather was Barsi András and his godmother was Érsok Borbála.  András' father was József Székely and his mother was Erzsébet Balázs.  His paternal grandparents were Székely and <Unknown>; his maternal grandparents were András Balázs and Erzsébet Balázs. He had a brother and five sisters, named András, Eszter, Rebeka, Lídia, Eszter and Erzsébet.  He was the second oldest of the seven children.
