Sylvia was born on November 11th, 1922 in Johannesburg. Sylvia's father was Robert Sandler and her mother was Polly Elaine Orbach. Her paternal grandparents were Samuel Naftaly Hertz Sandler and Annie (Annie ) Leah Katz; her maternal grandparents were Joseph Orbach and Pesa Weinberg. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Monty, Norman, Archie, Patsy and Sandler. She died due to a medical problem, Heart valve disease , at the age of 62 on August 3rd, 1985 in Port Elizabeth. She was buried at the Port Elizabeth Jewish Cemetery.¹
