Solomon placed a notice in the Bury Times on 24 Oct 1863 reading: "NOTICE - I, SOLOMON MATHER, of 68 Victoria Street, Elton, Bury will not be responsible for any debt or debts which my wife, JANE MATHER, may contract after this date - October 23rd 1863". Oh dear! Perhaps Jane was a shopaholic"

Jane and Solomon were married in a religious ceremony on January 9th, 1837 at St. Peter's (Bolton) by Vicar J Slade and witnessed by Edward Cucknell.4 They had a son and eight daughters, named Samuel, Elizabeth, Mary, Alice, Martha, Nancy, Margaret, Mary and Rachel. There are no more children.
