James was born in August 1787 in Entwistle and his baptism took place on April 10th, 1785 at St. Peter's (Bolton).²

  This is NOT the James Mather son of James and Isable, baptised 1876.  That is another James that died aged 1, and then they had another James that died aged 8.
  
  This is not the James Mather born 1785, son of James and Betty.
He died from a stroke, Paralysis, at the age of 54 on September 3rd, 1841 in Entwistle.³

 Solomon Mather
Solomon was born in June 1789 in Turton.⁴ 
• Birth Notes

  Aged 50 in 1841 at Crown Point, Edgworth
  Aged 61 in 1851, born Turton
  Aged 64 in 1854 when died, so born about 1790.
  
  There is no baptism on record for Solomon, so it is likely he is one of those baptised at Walmsley, where records were lost.  He is likely to be the son of Isaac who had a brother Solomon.
  
  1851 Census also show place of birth as Turton, and its possible (but not confirmed) his son was named Isaac after his father Isaac Mather.  If that is correct, he must be born at least a year before sister Ann, so born about Mid 1789.  This would be the first child after 4 Jan 1787 marriage, a perfect fit, else theres a 4 year gap before first child.
  
He died at the age of 64 on April 13th, 1854 in Eagley.⁵

  Wife Mary also had probate when she died in Little Bolton, 1863.
  
  Solomon's death in April 1854 was reported in the Bolton Chronicle: "On the 13th inst., very suddenly, Mr Solomon Mather of the Talbot Inn, Brown Street, Little Bolton."

Ann was born on December 19th, 1790 at Toppings and her baptism took place on January 24th, 1791 at Walmsley Presbyterian conducted by minister Thomas Davies.^6 1

Esther was born on March 2nd, 1792 at Toppings and her baptism took place on March 18th, 1792 at Walmsley Presbyterian conducted by minister Thomas Davies.^6 8

  There is an Esther Isherwood (50) with James Isherwood (55) in Noble Street, Bolton in 1841, with Henry, William, Betty and Charles.  This Esther was still alive in 1871 with her daughter Betty Loynds and Son John (b.1843) in Blackburn.  Therefore, this Esther is not the Esther that died in Blackburn.

Joseph was born in 1798 in Turton.¹⁰

  There is a baptism for Joseph, son of James and Ann, but this is another from Little Bolton.  Turton (Walmsey) baptism records are missing.

 Alice Mather


Alice was born in 1801 in Turton.¹²

  Walmsley Chapel (Presbyterian) baptism records are missing 3-Oct-1794 to Oct-1815.  However, we know Alice was 40 on the 1841 census, and had her father Isaac with her, aged 80.
  
  Alice Settle was a widow in 1861, and census confirms she was from Turton.  She also had Rachel Mather, boarder (sister-in-law) with her.
She died at the age of 62 in 1863 in Edgworth.⁹

 Nancy Mather


Nancy was born in 1803 in Turton.¹³

  There is only the one Bolton-le-Moors marriage for a Samuel Kay to a Nancy, and that is Nancy Mather. 
  
  There are two births:
  Nancy Mather (d of Jas Mather & Sally, c. 31-May-1799) who died and
  Nanny Mather (d of James Mather & Happy, c 13-May-1799).
  Neither of these fit.  However, we know the baptisms for this family are missing, so a birth for Nancy, daughter of Solomon Mather is quite possible.  All the family were at Toppings and Nancy is a neighbour of her supposed nephew Joseph Mather in 1861.
She died at the age of 79 in November 1882 in Turton.  She was buried on November 16th, 1882 at St. Anne (Turton).
