- Death Notes
- Walter Herman Trauernicht, son of Thomas Trauernicht and Anna nee! Frerichs, was born
September 5, 1922 at Beatrice. On October 1 of that year he became a member of God’s
Kingdom of Grace through the sacrament of Holy Baptism administered at St. John’s Lutheran
Church in Beatrice. After being instructed in the truths of God’s Word, he publicly confessed
his faith and was confirmed on April 10, 1938 by Pastor Lechner at St. John’s Lutheran
Church. His confirmation verse was John 16:23, “In that day you will no longer ask me
anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.”
Walt graduated from Holmesville High School, and then served in World War II in the U.S.
Army Air Force from 1942-1945. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre where he was a
tailgunner. Walt was a member of the Geddes-Thober Post #1077 Veteran of Foreign Wars
of Beatrice and the Schopp-Ewing-Nispel Post #243 of the American Legion of Plymouth.
On June 6, 1948, he was joined in holy matrimony to Ila Bockholdt at the Christ Evangelical
Lutheran Church parsonage in Beatrice. The couple farmed near Beatrice, and then moved to
St. Louis where Walt worked on electrical systems for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft for 28
years. The Lord blessed this union with three sons.
Walt was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Plymouth. These past few years,
due to failing health, he resided at the Parkview Center in Beatrice where he received the
Lord’s Supper privately for the assurance of the forgiveness of his sins.
The Lord called him out of this life to life eternal this past Friday afternoon at the age of 86
years, 11 months, and 23 days. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Menne and
Lammert Trauernicht; and two sisters, Marie who died in infancy, and Fanny Knorr.
He leaves to mourn his passing: his beloved wife, Ila of Beatrice; three sons, Robert
Trauernicht of Plymouth, Allan Trauernicht and his wife Louise of Wymore, and David
Trauernicht and his wife Sandy of Colorado Springs, Colorado; one grandson, Joshua
Trauernicht and his wife Brenda of Beatrice; one step-granddaughter, Anita Bishop of
Beatrice; one great-grandson, Conner Trauernicht; one step-great-grandson, Jacob Bishop; two
sisters, Lena Johnson of Beatrice and Grace Brinkhuis of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; nieces,
nephews, and many other relatives and friends.
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away, may the name of the Lord be praised.
