Harry Dierks age 89, of Monticello, died Thursday evening, April 13, 2006 at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, Iowa following a period of declining health. Funeral services will be held 10:30 Friday morning, April 21, 2006 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church, rural Monticello with interment in the Wayne Zion Cemetery. Friends may call 3 until 8 Thursday at the Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello. Rev. Eugene Schipper will officiate at the services. Surviving is his wife, Winnoa "Snooks" Dierks, 2 daughters, Cindy (Kurt) Gunther, Anamosa, Jane Sara(Chris) McDermott, Nottingham, England, 2 sons, Gordon (Cathy) Dierks, Flagstaff, Arizona, Neil (Kristie) Dierks, Clive, a daughter-in-law, Saundra Dierks, Newton, Kansas, 8 Grandchildren, 3 great-Grandchildren, a brother Leon (Mary) Dierks, Toledo, Ohio, a sister-in-law, Evelyn Harms, Dierks, Pickerell, Cedar Rapids and many nieces, nephews. He was preceded in death by his Parents, a sister, Elise "Lizzie" Zimmerman, Spohler, a brother Lorence Dierks, and his oldest son, Errol Robert Dierks. Harry Hermann Dierks was born February 1, 1917 at home in Wayne Township, Jones County, Iowa. He was the oldest son of Adolf Hermann and Anna Prull, Zimmerman, Dierks. Harry attended the Wayne Township School and graduated from the Monticello Community Schools in 1938. Harry Dierks and Winnoa "Snooks" Harford were married October 28, 1938 at the Wayne Zion Lutheran Church. Harry was a loving husband, devoted father, life long crop and livestock farmer, an antique tractor hobbyist and avid motorcycle enthusiast. Harry and Snooks celebrated their 67th Wedding Anniversary last October. They retired from active Moto Guzzi motorcycle riding six years ago when Harry was 83. The couple traveled throughout the country on their motorcycles and made many lifelong friends. There were very few strangers Harry ever met. During his life, Harry participated in many civic groups, youth activities and his church.
