  • Norbert R. Kelle, 80, Beatrice, NE died at the Beatrice Community Hospital and Health Center on Friday afternoon, July 23, 2004. He was born on Nov. 14, 1923, at rural Sterling, and grew up in the Adams area. He graduated from Filley Consolidated School in 1941. On Feb. 13, 1944, he married Arlene E. Trauernicht at Zion Lutheran Church of rural Pickrell. They farmed in the Beatrice and Filley area until 1964, at which time he joined the Carpenters Union and worked on sites including Cominco American, Inc., near Beatrice, Cooper Nuclear Power Station at Brownville, and East High School in Lincoln. They moved to Beatrice in 1978, where he worked at Cooper Feed Mill until the mill's closing. At that time, he began maintaining the Midland Township roads and working for Scully Estates doing terracing until his retirement in 2003. He was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church, Sterling, the American Lutheran Church of Filley, Zion Lutheran Church, rural Pickrell, and was currently a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice, where he served as an usher and greeter. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 531 of Beatrice. He had a love for the land through his farming, enjoyed doing yard work and gardening, being around his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and playing cards with friends or visiting at coffee shops.
    Survivors: wife Arlene; daughters, LaDonna DeBuhr and husband Darvin, Cheryl Smith and husband David, and Sandra Daubendiek and husband Gerhardt, all of Beatrice; son, Arlan Kelle and wife Miriam of Beatrice; grandchildren, Colleen Nieveen and husband Tom of Sterling, Calvin Remmers and wife Lora of Olathe, Kan., Ryan Smith of Omaha, Neil Smith of Philadelphia, Pa., and Miranda Kelle and Spencer Kelle, both of Beatrice; three great-grandchildren; sisters, LaVeda Oltman of Greeley, Colo., and Bernice Jobman of Beatrice; sisters-in-law, Evelena Kelle, Rosie Paben, Reka Trauernicht, and Dena Trauernicht all of Beatrice, and Leona Trauernicht of Pickrell; brother-in-law, Tobias Fritzen of Diller; one aunt; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mary (Weyers) Kelle; son-in-law, Orville Remmers; brother, Daylon Kelle; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Reinder Oltman, Harvey Jobman, John Trauernicht and wife Anna, Edwin Trauernicht and wife Anna, Herman Trauernicht and wife Marie, Willie Trauernicht, Alfred Trauernicht, Elmer Trauernicht and Ollie Trauernicht; sisters-in-law, Emma Wolken and husband John; and Clara Fritzen.
    
    Funeral: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, St. John Lutheran Church, Sixth and Washington streets, Beatrice, Pastor David Kramer officiating.
    
    Burial: Evergreen Home Cemetery, Beatrice.
    
    Family prayer service: 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, chapel of the church. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home, 19th and Garfield streets, Beatrice, until 9 p.m. Monday and then one hour preceding the service at the church on Tuesday.
