Folkert was born on April 26th, 1828 in Wiesederfehn, Aurich, Lower Saxony, Germany.1   Folkert's father was <Unknown> and his mother was <Unknown>. He had a brother named Johann.  He was the younger of the two children.  He died at the age of 62 on September 15th, 1890 in Plymouth, Iowa.1

Folkert and Gretje were married in a religious ceremony on June 7th, 1857 in Reepsholt, Lower Saxony, Germany.1   They had five sons and three daughters, named Johann, George, Claus, Heinrich, Herman, Ette, Tina and Mina.
