      Charles Bartels, age 68 years, died Monday, February 4 at the Bethphage Mission in Axtell, where he has made his home since June, 1956. He lived near Wilcox on a farm for many years and was also employed at the Navy Depot in Hastings for some years.
      About three years ago he left Wilcox to reside at rest homes in Kearney and Minden and then later moved to Bethphage in Axtell.
      Survivors include: one son, Ted Bartels of Wilcox; two daughters, Mrs. Otto (Esther) Kleeman of Burchard and Mrs. Rudolph Gellerman of Wilcox.
      Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 8 at 1:30 p.m. at the Zulauf Chapel and at 2:00 p.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church at Wilcox. Rev. E.L. Wittenburg will officiate and burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, south of Wilcox.
  Louise Titkemeier
  Louise was born on January 8th, 1889 in Clatonia, Gage County, Nebraska.¹ She died due to a respiratory problem and/or pneumonia at the age of 39 on May 3rd, 1928 in Hastings, Adams County, Nebraska. The funeral took place on May 6th, 1928. She was buried in St. John's Cemetery, Wilcox, Kearney County, Nebraska.¹¹

      Louise Bartels (nee Titkemeier) was born in Clatonia, Gage county, Nebraska, january 8th, 1889, where she was also baptized and was confirmed in Wilcox, Kearney county, Nebraksa.
      On October 14th, 1909, she entered into the holy estate of matrimony with Charlie Bartels of Campbell, Franklin county, Nebraska. Four children were born into their union, 2 daughters and two sons. One son having preceded her in death.
      After a long illness, she departed this life, May 3, 1928, Thursday afternoon at 1:25 having attained the age of 39 years, 3 months and 27 days. The cause of her death being Bronco=Pneumonia (sic).
      She leaves to mourn her departure, her sorrowing husband, two daughters Esther and Laura, and one son Theodore. Also her parents, four sisters, our brothrs, (one sister preceded her in death) and many other relatives and friends.
      Funeral services were held Sunday, May 6th at her home at 2:00 P.M. followed by services at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran church, in the German and English languages. Interment was made in the Evangelical Lutheran cemetery, Wilcox, Nebrask. (sic)

  Theodore, known as Ted, was born on November 7th, 1913 in Campbell, Franklin County, Nebraska and his baptism took place in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Campbell, Franklin County, Nebraska.¹ He died at the age of 86 on November 7th, 1999 in Holdrege, Phelps County, Nebraska. The funeral took place on November 11th, 1999 in St. John's Cemetery, Wilcox, Kearney County, Nebraska. He was buried in St. John's Cemetery, Wilcox, Kearney County, Nebraska.²¹¹

    Theodore Henrey Bartels, 86, of Wilcox, NE died Sunday, November 7, 1999 at Methodist Memorial Homes.
    He was born on November 7, 1913 at Campbell to Charles and Louise (Titkemeier) Bartels. He was baptized in infancy at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Campbell and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wilcox on May 15, 1927. He attended St. John's Lutheran Parochial School through the eighth grade.
    He farmed for John Gardels and later for Gayle Gardels, retiring in 1982.
    On October 19, 1936 he was united in marriage to Emma Matilda Bruns at the Lutheran Parsonage at Kimball. They resided on farms in the Wilcox area, later moving into Wilcox in 1973.
    Mr. Bartels was an active member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in Wilcox, all his life, serving as an elder, treasurer, and trustee. Mr. and Mrs. Bartels have been residents at Methodist Memorial Home in Holdrege since September 14, 1999.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert Allen Bartels; an infant brother, Arnold Bartels; two sisters, Esther Kleeman and husband, Otto; and Laura Gellerman.
    Survivors include his wife, Emma of Methodist Memorial Home in Holdrege; two sons, Arlyn Bartels and wife, Jean of Las Cruces, NM; Daniel Bartels and wife, Patricia of Lincoln; one daughter, Mrs. Dolores Tupper and husband, Roger of Naponee; brother-in-law, Rudolph Gellerman of Christian Homes in Holdrege; nine grandchildren; si great-grandchildren; relativs and a host of friends.
    Funeral services were Thursday, November 11, 1999 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wilcox with Pastor Jeremy Jacoby officiating. Burial was in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, south of Wilcox.
    The Banta-Torrey Funeral Home in Wilcox was in charge of arrangements.
