Ret. Office Manager
Helen Bennett VanWyck, office manager and dental assistant for the late Dr. Russell Pantel in Monticello, died on Monday, May 15, 2006 at Park Manor Nursing Home in Middletown. She was 88.
The daughter of the late Matilda Genovese Ficarra and Vincent Ficarra, she was born December 28, 1917 in the Bronx.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Charles T. Keller, Charles N. Bennett and John VanWyck.
Helen resided in Sullivan County for the majority of her life. She was an accomplished artist and assisted special needs children with craft projects from Nyack.
Her works will be displayed this Saturday at Park Manor in Middletown in recognition of "National Nursing Home Week."
In a family statement it was said, "She was a loving and talented woman who was an inspiration to her family, who loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed."
Survivors include three sons and their spouses: Ted and Jane Keller of Lee's Summit, Missouri; George Keller and Dottie Albert of Monticello; and Gregg "Bugsy" and Myra Bennett of Mountaindale; four grandchildren: Seth and Samantha Bennett, Kimber Holcomb and Jim Keller; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two brothers, John and Sal Ficarra; and two sisters, Sadie Muro and Yola Ficarra.
Funeral services were held on Thursday at the Colonial Memorial Funeral Home, in Woodbourne, with interment at the Rock Ridge Cemetery, Monticello.
