Alex N. Johnson, age 18 of Monroe, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016 in his home due to injuries he sustained in a house fire that also claimed the life of his grandfather, Ruben Castorena.
A joint memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday in the auditorium at Monroe High School (901 Herr Rd., Monroe MI 48161) where Alex was currently a student. His uncle, Duane Holbrook will officiate. Rupp Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Born October 29, 1998 in Detroit, he was the son of Bradley Johnson and Monica Castorena. He was currently enrolled as a Junior at Monroe High School and was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Alex enjoyed camping, swimming, bowling, biking, fishing, playing and socializing on his ipad, and hanging out with his friends at the Jefferson Recreation Center.
Alex is survived by his mother, Monica; sister, Jessica Johnson; grandmother, Amelia Castorena; half-brother, Patrick Johnson of Luna Pier; two aunts, Christina (Duane) Holbrook of Scottsdale, Arizona and Dahlia (Ivano Coates) Castorena of Ypsilanti; uncle, Jason Cantrell of Monroe; step-grandfather, John Rankin of Monroe; cousins, Lillyana Coates of Ypsilanti, Brett (Jade) Winkler of Wakill, New York, and Tanya Winkler of Arlington, Texas; great-uncles, Pete (Cathy) Portillo of Monroe and Marcos (Jessica) Portillo of Grand Rapids, Michigan; and great-aunt, Francisca (Harry) Winkler of Arlington, Texas.
Alex was preceded in death by his father, Bradley Johnson and grandmother, Rhonda Rankin.
