Sir Francis Popham. Knt. of Littlecott, member in the last parliament of Queen Elizabeth, and in all those of Kings James I. and Charles I. He was excepted out of the general pardon by the latter prince. He m. Anne, dau. and heiress of John Dudley, Esq. of Stoke Ncwington, grandson of Thomas, son of Edward Lord Dudley, and had issue,
i. John, gentleman of the privy chamber to King Charles I. , r. p., and *. p.
ii. Alexander, the heir, in. Thomas, who d. s. p.
iv. Hugh, slain at Sherborne during the civil wars, and d. unm.
v. Edward, who commanded a parliamentary regiment during the civil wars, and at his decease, in Aug. 1651, had a public funeral at Westminster Abbey. Col. Pop ham m. Anne, dau. of William Carre, groom of the bedcluunher to James 1., by whom (who m. 2ndly, — Whar ton, Esq.) he had a dau., Letitia, the wife of John Bauden, and a son, Alexander, of Bourton-on-the-Hill, co. Glou cester, who m. Briliana, dau. of Sir Edward Harley, and had a son, Edward, with four daus., one of whom m, Francis Popham, Esq. of Littlecott.
