Nick Hartland

  • Born in Holland he came to the United States when he was 12 years old. In 1896 he came to Minnesota and settled at Friesland and resided in this area for 58 years.
    He married Ann Hansen at Hinckley, MN, and lived in Friesland before moving to Sandstone.
    Nick was survived by his wife; one son, Martin(Buddy), Cal.; one stepdaughter, Carol, Mrs. Herman Novak, New York City; three sisters, Mrs. Gretchen DeBoer, Fresno, Calif., and Mrs. Rudolph Johnson, Detroit, Mich.; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
    
    Francis Hartland, daughter of Nick, was born in East Grand Forks, MN, June 28, 1906. In 1911, she came with her father to the Friesland Community and lived with her Grandmother Zwackman. In 1924 she was married to Robert Thompson, who passed away. She then married Clarence White of St. Peter, MN.
    She died on December 6, 1936, after a short illness. Nick was with her the last few days of her illness. She leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, father, and three children, Edith, Donald and Jerry, and one brother Martin.
