Ethelbert's father was Ethelwulf and his mother was Osburh.  His paternal grandparents were Egbert and Redburh; his maternal grandfather was Oslac.  He was the fourth of six children.  He had four brothers and a sister, named Alfred the_Great, Athelstan, Ethelbald, Ethelred_I and Ethelswith.  He died in 0866.
