Edward the_Elder's father was Alfred the_Great and his mother was Ealhswith.  His paternal grandparents were Ethelwulf and Osburh; his maternal grandfather was Ethelred Mucel.  He was the oldest of five children.  He had a brother and three sisters, named Ethelwerd, Ethelfleda, Ethelgiva of_Shaftesbury and Elfrida.  He died in 0924.  His burial was in Winchester.
