Cygnus was born in 1938.  Cygnus' father was Pollux Black and his mother was Irma Crabbe (Black).  His paternal grandparents were Cygnus Black and Violetta Bulstrode (Black).  He was the second of three children.  He had a brother and a sister, named Alphard and Walburga.  He died, at the age of 54, in 1992.

Cygnus and Druella were married (further details are not known). They had three daughters named Bellatrix, Andromeda and Narcissa.
