Clara's father was José de Freitas Morna and her mother was Carolina de Jesus.  Her paternal grandparents were Henrique de Freitas Morna and Maria de Jesus; her maternal grandparents were  João José Fernandes and  Julia Gomes.  She was the fourth of six children.  She had five brothers named Francisco, (Calafate), João, Ricardo de and Henrique de.
