Catherine was born in 1888.  Catherine's father was Walter Thomson and her mother was Christina Lawson.  Her paternal grandparents were Walter Thomson and Jane Adamson; her maternal grandparents were William Lawson and Ann Seath.  She had four brothers and four sisters, named Walter, William, Christopher, David, Agnes, Annie, Ann and Mary.  She was the youngest of the nine children.
