Elizabeth was born in 1828.  Elizabeth's father is Hugh McKay and her mother is Catherine Sutherland.  She has two brothers and three sisters, named Charles, Hugh, Eliza, Cecilia and Alexandrina.  She is the second oldest of the six children.
