Catherine was born in 1860.  Catherine's father is Donald McKay and her mother is Elizabeth McKay.  Her maternal grandparents are Hugh McKay and Catherine Sutherland.  She has a brother and three sisters, named Charles, Eliza, Christina and Jessie.  She is the second oldest of the five children.
