Lachlan was born in 1809. Lachlan's father was Allan MacQuarie and his mother was Sarah (Marian) MacArthur.  His paternal grandparents are Alexander MacQuarie and Marion MacArthur.  He had a brother and four sisters, named John, Margaret, Mary, Anne and Catherine.  He was the fourth oldest of the six children.  He died at the age of 27 in 1836.
