George was born in 1896.  George's father was George Campbell and his mother was Elizabeth Mowat.  His paternal grandparents were John Campbell and Margaret MacKenzie; his maternal grandparents were Andrew Mowat and Elizabeth Reid.  He had a brother and five sisters, named John, Lizzie, Maggie, Hughina, Sydney and Jane.  He was the sixth oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 1 in 1897.
