William was born in 1859.  William's father is James Bisset and his mother was Christian Thomson.  His paternal grandparents are James Bisset and Betty Maxwell; his maternal grandparents were Walter Thomson and Margaret Penman.  He has two brothers and two sisters, named James, Walter, Margaret and Isabella.  He is the youngest of the five children.
