Robert was born in 1791.  Robert's father was Robert Begg and his mother was Isabella Mathison.  His paternal grandfather is Alexander Begg and his paternal grandmother was Isobel Cormack.  He had two brothers and two sisters, named Alexander, John, Isabella and James.  He was the youngest of the five children.
