Frances was born in 1826.  Frances' father was Alexander Begg and her mother was Christina Dunnet.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Begg and Isabella Mathison.  She had three brothers and four sisters, named Robert, James, Alexander, Margaret, Isobella, Jane and Elizabeth.  She was the sixth oldest of the eight children.
